Hours of Work
Office workers in Spain usually have the typical international business schedule of 9 am to 5 pm with a short lunch break (jornada intensiva). Workers in retail and similar industries usually work a split shift (jornada partida), meaning their workday is from 9 am to 8 pm with a 2-hour lunch break.
Vacation and Leave
Annual leave is negotiated either in one’s employment contract or by a collective bargaining agreement. There is a statutory minimum of 30 calendar days for long-term and indefinite contract employees, and a pro-rated minimum (based on 30 calendar days) for temporary contract employees.
