Salaries

Get overall local salary trends and typical salaries by job title. Below is a brief excerpt, highlighting just one industry:

Spain ranks among the 30 countries with the highest average wages. However, its average salary is still below the EU average and much lower than in many leading European countries.

  • Salaries vary significantly throughout the country. The highest wages are found in the Basque Country, Navarra, Catalonia and Madrid. The lowest salaries are found in Andalusia and Extremadura.

  • The gender gap is still an issue with salaries. On average, women earn around 17% less than men in the country.

  • In general, salaries increased by around 3% throughout the country in the past 12 months.

  • Financial activities, insurance, health care, engineering, and IT/communications are among the sectors that pay the highest salaries.

  • Non-EU expats working in the country tend to earn higher salaries than the local average.

Below is additional and more specific salary information by industry. All figures are expressed in EUR. Most tables include variations by years of professional experience and industry segments. The capital, Madrid, continues to offer some of the best salaries in the country in most sectors.
